Teletherapy

“Learn to read symptoms not only as a problem to overcome but as messages to be heeded.”

Gabor Mate

With Covid-19 here, teletherapy has become more mainstream.

You might be pleased to know that research shows that the benefits of teletherapy are comparable to that of in-person psychotherapy and counseling.  Teletherapy is helpful in treating individuals and couples, and in helping people with symptoms of of anxiety, depression and/or relationship issues.  Outcomes depend heavily on client and therapist engagement, but I imagine that is true forin-person therapy, as well.

I was using distance therapy prior to the Covid-19 crisis with success and my skills at teletherapy have only improved.

Even when there isn’t a pandemic, there are noteworthy benefits of virtual therapy.  These include:

  • People save on travel time and travel costs
  • It can be scheduled at an individual’s convenience
  • Busy men and busy women can access support more easily
  • People have more privacy which can reduce stigma and promote engagement
  • People can use the place that they have therapy as a space to “channel” slowing down and self-reflection

Of course, teletherapy isn’t for everyone and there are therapists proving in-person individual and couple therapy.
