When it’s Time to Seek Counseling

“If you have a preference, voice it.  If you have a question, ask it.  If you want to cry, bawl.  If you need help, raise your hand and jump up and down!”
Kristin Armstrong

Sometimes life can be challenging and the problems that come our way seem difficult. What can make these hard times even harder is when we doubt our ability to handle what comes up. Or when we’re not feeling good about ourselves. Or when we’re feeling like we’re facing these difficulties all alone, without anyone by our side.

We all have times in our lives when we feel stuck and unable to see a way around our difficulties. Mental Health Counseling or Therapy can be an important tool to help you feel better, and begin to find effective solutions to your problems. Together, with your therapist, you can create a calm, safe place to think, talk and work out life’s challenges. You can learn to build on your strengths to help you feel better, achieve your goals and work on finding ways for you to access and make use of your potential.

One important part to a person’s resilience is to find new meaning in his or her loss, hardship or suffering. Therapy can help you see things from a different perspective.

When choosing a therapist, find someone that you feel comfortable with.  Someone that you feel is respectful and predictable. Whether a counselor or social worker or psychologist, a key factor in your growth is the relationship with whomever you choose.

I am thankful to the many people who have shared their lives with me and taught me about people’s courage and capacity to heal and change. If we had our choice, most of us would choose to learn from easier situations.  We don’t get to choose the hand we are dealt, but I believe we can learn and grow from all experiences.

I have years of experience dealing with just these kinds of issues. Contact me for more information.
